Mediation Clinic
As the courts become more and more crowded, the time lag for court sessions lengthens and the costs of legal recourse increase, a number of alternative dispute resolution techniques (ADR) have arisen to aid people in solving their disagreements outside the courtroom.
Mediation or Alternative Dispute Resolution has become a significant and meaningful alternative to the often painful and costly route of legal recourse, even in cases where personal conflict makes reaching a common agreement a seemingly impossible task. These same mediation tools and techniques are employable in daily life in response to conflicts in the family, the community and the business sector, long before legal action is considered.
The Mediation Clinic was founded in 2002 with the goal of developing awareness and understanding of mediation as a viable alternative or complement to legal procedures, and as a life skills tool for reaching peaceable agreements to disputes.
The Clinic trains law students in the art of mediation through lectures, workshops and observation of practical mediation sessions, and offers pro bono mediation training and services to a wide range of clients, including schools, individuals, nonprofit organizations, and the courts. In addition, the Clinic carries out research on the implementation and success of mediation processes in various frameworks.
